One day you pick up a stone and toss it into a calm little pond. As the stone hits the water, those molecules (?) in that certain area of the pond are now moved into other areas and perhaps and group on insects resting on the top of the water now have been divided and disturbt.
As the stone enters the water and continues its gravitational descend, a fish that was swimming along has now had to re map it's cours as the stone is in the way.
As the stone still continues descending, it hits some kind of pond vegitation and brakes of a piece of it and now that peace will wither and die.
As the stone finishes it's descent, it finds it's resting spot over a hole in the ponds bottom. That hole was the home of perhaps on indangered aquatic life form and the nesting ground for it's eggs that are soon to hatch.
Just one stone has done this, yet it has also done so much more.....
The insects on the top of the water have perhaps gotten confused as to their new location on the pond and have forever been seperated from their loved ones (ok, a bit of a stretch but bare with me) Or their little happy gathering has been upset and now they are saddend. Or maybe they where all fighting and now that they have been interupted, they have had a moment to reflect and now are thinking differently?!
The fish that had to re map out his course. Now maybe his course will take him into a dangerous part of the pond and he will be eaten by the lock ness. Or now that he has be forced to change his course, he will continue on to his original destination with new senery for him to ponder on. You now, seeing the same destinational course but through someone elses courses eyes.
The vegitation that had a peice of its self broken off. That part of its self will be no more, it is dead becasue of the stone that I threw. That could have been the part that flowered into a water lily and I will never have the pleasure of seeing its beauty. Maybe becasue of that part dying, the rest will not be healthy enough to sustain it and it will completly die.
The indangered aquatic life that has now hatched it desperatly trying to not be trapped in their home. They need to get out and find food and also to get to the surface to breeath in air. Needless to say, they don't get out and they die. They specis is no more because of that stone. Other life in the pond suffers as it was a food source for them as well.
This pond will either adapt to the stone that was tossed into it, or it will not.
What kind of ponds do you have in your life and are you aware of the ripple effect? Do you care?, feel helpless? or try to be as considerate as you can as nothing can stop the ripple effect but I think that if I for one am aware of it, then I can perhaps lessen the bad effects and increase the good ones
Anyway. Any thoughts?

P.S. Everyone, this is exposed to be an example of negative "AND" positive possible effects and I am sorry if it apparently seems to only focus on the negative, please pay attention perhaps to the fish getting to see their journey through someone elses eyes as they have been made to take the others course. I think that could be positive and am struggling with the apparent negative look at all that I have written for this.
Anyway.

I am reminded of the Star Trek Prime Imperative (is that what they call it?) that says they must never interfere with the course of an alien culture.
How to be in this world without breaking a few eggs?
I find grace in Martin Luther's pronouncement "Sin boldly!" Which to me means that if you hope to make a difference you can't help but do some damage - but you can't let fear get in the way of following Christ's heart.
