Struggling to be faithful.Oct 20 2013

Yesterday I went for a run. It was a special run for me.

Yesterday I ran 21 kilometers, which is a half marathon.

I didn’t run that far on my own. There were over 600 of us on this run.

Half marathons are a very popular race.

With every kind of social group, races have  own trads & habits & norms When you sign up for a half marathon, you get your bib number,

but you also get a race shirt.

Now some people will wear that special race shirt for the run.

Minutes for Mission - October 20: Speaking Out to Protect the World

The United Church’s mission and service includes working with partners around the world, such as The Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea. Listen to how our partner is working, like us, to live with respect in Creation.

Church of the Larger Fellowship

Since I know there are some here who are interested in Unitarian Universalism, I thought I would throw out a couple links that are quite helpful in seeing some of the breadth and diversity of "The Chosen Faith" (as it was termed in a book many years back).

U.S. Senate Chaplain one of the world's most influential pulpits

Imagine, for a moment, you are a U.S. senator. The United States Senate has a designated chaplain who offers prayer at the opening of every daily session.

But the assembly is deadlocked. There is no agreement on anything. Partisan politics rule the day. The U.S. government is shut down and employees are furloughed. National parks are closed. Government services at a complete standstill.

Transit concerns about quality of life

I don’t generally go to public meetings or protests. I’ve usually steered away, having other things I choose or have to do.

But I made a point of attending the meeting in front of the bus terminal in Owen Sound last Monday. I’m glad I went.

I was convinced to go by the words of a few wise members of my congregation. People who are well into their mature years and steeped in wisdom of life.

All together?

I must say I am relieved to see the end of September.

It was a sad and bloody month.

The month began with the 12th Anniversary of the Sep11th attacks in US. On the same day, a Florida pastor was arrested

before he could set on fire several thousand copies of the Qu’ran.

The month really went off the rails when

a pair of suicide bombers in Pakistan killed close to 80 Christians

as they were leaving their Anglican Church after the Sunday service.
