Excuse me, but aren't the Canadian energy companies involved in this also "flush with foreign money"?? What is this country coming to??

This is what I was worried about.

The sad part is that it was apparent that this is the direction the Tories would move if elected.  And people still voted them in.

We can complain... but we can't stop them.

The polls are stunning

I can scarcely believe the poll results I'm seeing. In all seriousness, I had given up hope for Canada. It was obvious that Harper was a blind ideologue, and thoroughly anti-democracy. This isn't wild, political name calling. He has many times demonstrated his loathing for democracy. And he is owned by  corporate money even more than John A. Macdonald was.

Election wondering.

When I am traumatized I find myself responding with my reptilian brain - often blended with anger - frustration.   In the flight or fight response of our limbic brain not only do such responses happen automatically they are uncharacteristic and not calm rationed thoughts.   With information overload I am wondering if the population is not overwhelmed, fealing helpless, frustrated and prone to anger when it comes to thinking about politics and how we intend to order our society.   It can be confusing difficult work filled with compexity of positions a

Canada without Quebec

It seems likely the Parti Quebecois will win the next provincial election in Quebec. If so, they will almost certainly call another referendum - and I think it quite possible they would win because...

1. Support for separatism is running rather high, paricularly since it has not been that much in the news.

C.R.U.S.H ....

Saw an ad in the Toronto Star today which spoke to me - Canadians Rallying to UnSeat Harper - not sure I'm quite ready to send them my money, but I'm sure happy to see something is going on to raise a rallying cry!

harper the kiss up, and why

I read an item somewhere on the web, and just lost it. I would appreciate it if anyone could tell me where the story is.

It's about Canadian Jews for Peace in the Middle East. They had set up a tour for a Palestinian speaker who has been here before. The normal time for him to get a Canadian visa was 24 hours. But they applied far in advance this time. And this time the Canadian government, knowing his schedule, postponed the visa until it was too late. CJPME had, of course, to cancel the tour.
