Just made my own buttermilk for the first time today and it turned out spectacularly.

So we're getting to be more and more a ferment friendly household. So far we are making our own

bread

pickles

sourkraut

My next fermentary adventure is going to be in the direction of chees making.

Daughters Hearing Loss

So for a while now I've been wondering if there was something going on with my 3 yr old daughters hearing.  But in the winter/early spring, she had a few colds and so I thought maybe her ears were a bit plugged. But over the last few weeks, its been noticeable.  And way beyond a three year old loving to say the word What? What? What?  She's now coming closer or leaning in to hear me and says Pardon Me (or What) about a hundred times.

healthy thoughts please

so, even though i'm not particularly good at asking for help or prayers, i'm being inspired by Serena to just post here and ask for a good outcome from tomorrow's cardiologist appointment - stress test to begin and then talk about what's going on.  i've already had a blood workup and they'll determine tomorrow whether i need an MRI, etc.

Good news

I got some good news today.  My  mother's condition has been deteriorating very rapidly over the past 2 weeks and we thought for sure it was because the tumor was growing, but we got the results from her MRI and the tumor has actually shrunk.  The deterioration has been caused by the water retention that is a side effect of the steriods that she is on.  They cut the steriods by one pill a day for this week and will be reducing them by half a pill a week until they find a balance between the side effects and the benefits.  She cannot have another course of chemo unti

Is retirement bad for your health?

Three years ago, I retired. I had led a busy life - teaching, radio twice a day, TV, public talks fifty or sixty a year. I looked forward to doing things I had never had timem for - a family tree, some reading...  Instead, I find I'm always tired an spiritless. Two months ago, I spent time in hospital being checked for an irregular heart beat. I have little energy.
