First United Church, in the heart of Uptown Waterloo, has as its greatest asset our people. We are people of different ages and at different stages on our spiritual path, choosing to support each other along that path -- people open to experiencing God through Jesus Christ. When you visit us on Sunday morning at First United, it is our hope that you feel welcomed and comfortable from the time you enter our church building. Our weekly Sunday morning service, at 10:30 a.m., is a traditional style of worship with music provided by a 40 voice choir, the congregation and accompanied by our pipe organ and piano. Though our service is traditional, the message is fresh and speaks to us about a loving, open and inclusive God and helps us understand how God is relevant in our lives. On Sunday morning we also have a Sunday school program for children, with good resources and support for our teachers and a nursery program for children who are younger than school age. For adults we have a weekly adult study and discussion group which meets before the church service each Sunday. There are groups, for both youth and adults, which gather regularly during the week. We have a strong tradition of outreach, expressed both in generous giving and in discussion of issues. We have sponsored a refugee family, Habitat for Humanity builds, and other justice/outreach issues. This includes ongoing support and space for an "Out of the Cold" program that is open each Friday night from November to April, for those in our community who need a hot meal and a place to sleep. As our mission statement says, "Through God's love we are called to be Christ's disciples". That call is ongoing and we are "becoming" the people of Christ in this place. We invite you to join us.
Our weekly Sunday morning service is at 10:30 a.m. Childcare and Sunday School are available from birth to Grade 8.
