History
Knox Shuniah United Church began as a mission Sunday school in the north end of Port Arthur,
on the east side of Shuniah Road.  The need for a Sunday school in the north end of the city was brought to the attention of St. Paul Presbyterian Church by residents in that area. The Knox Presbyterian Sabbath School was dedicated on May 28, 1909. Within two years, Knox was recognized as more than a Mission. It became a church and a home to many who lived in this part of the city and a centre of activity for the whole community.
As the congregation and the community grew, the little one room church was enlarged over the years, until a new property across the road was obtained and the brick structure we have now, materialized and was dedicated on May 29, 1949. As more and more children attended Sunday school, the congregation set to work to relieve the crowded conditions and the construction commenced on Crittall Hall in 1962. We have a beautiful building that is multipurpose in design and serves our needs, the needs of others in the community and is wheel chair accessible.
Mission statement:  To show by deed the love of Christ
Knox offers community, compassion, Spiritual renewal and hope. We are involved in quality worship, Christian Education and outreach in the community, world mission, sponsorship of scouting groups, community groups, fellowship groups, social events, combined events with other churches, drama, musicals and much more.  None of this however, could be possible without Knox’s greatest asset, its people. We are a welcoming and non-judgmental congregation, with a vision of growth and renewal, and a growing focus on the environment.  We are a close, loving family.  People in this pastoral charge relate well to one another, with genuine care and concern.

About the Service

Knox is a special place to come and worship.  There will be someone there to greet you at the door and we guarantee that you will enjoy the service.  Each Sunday, we provide a positive and meaningful worship service.  We are mostly traditional, but sometimes contemporary in nature, with a willingness to try new things.  We have a very talented Organist and Choir Director and a very good choir. Sunday services are at 10:30 am, with special services at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

About the Neighbourhood

Knox is located on five corners, centered by Shuniah Street, in a residential area, in the north end of Thunder Bay.  Most members come from the surrounding neighborhood but many travel from other parts of the city, both urban and rural.

Church Minister

Pastor Jeannie Udall

Our 18th minister in 100 years, Pastor Jeannie Udall, has just recently joined us as our new spiritual leader. In her short time at Knox, she has made wonderful impression with her Christ-centered style of worship. Pastor Jeanie has been in ministry for 22 years. Prior to her coming to Thunder Bay, she served in lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, Morrisburg and Sarnia Ontario. Pastor Jeannie’s friendly style and her outgoing nature have been well received by the congregation.  In her words” Worship is exciting” along with the spoken word Pastor Jeannie incorporates visual aids, humor, music and children’s chatter into the service, to provide a fresh and alive gathering.
