MacKay United Church is located in the New Edinburgh neighbourhood of Ottawa, Ontario. The church was founded in 1875 on land donated by William MacKinnon, grandson of Thomas McKay, the founder of New Edinburgh and namesake of the church. The building was expanded in 1924 and the entire structure was demolished for a new building completed in 1910. It was originally called MacKay Presbyterian, but became MacKay United, on June 10, 1925. The church is located at the intersection of Dufferin and MacKay at the southeast corner of the Rideau Hall estate.
Our Sunday Worship Service is held at 10:30 am with Sunday School and a Nursery/Playroom available.
http://www.newedinburgh.ca/ New Edinburgh is a small neighbourhood located to the east of the downtown core. It is bordered on the west by the Rideau River, to the north by the Ottawa River, to the south by Beechwood Avenue, to the east the border is less regular but is marked in part by Springfield Drive and Maple Lane. The shape is somewhat irregular, but it can be said to end where the old village of Rockcliffe Park ended. The area is an older neighbourhood and the Governor General of Canada's large residence and grounds are located in New Edinburgh, as is 24 Sussex Drive. The neighbourhood is home to several embassies and consulates, including those of Spain, South Africa, France and India. Civil servants (in particular, employees of the nearby Foreign Affairs Canada and International Trade Canada) compose a fair portion of the population. Like Rockcliffe Park, the neighbourhood is largely English-speaking, in opposition to the mostly French-speaking district of Vanier to the south.
I describe myself as an unfinished Christian, as I believe my faith is always evolving. My faith journey has taken me from Calvanism, having completed his Ph.D. in Durham, England under THL Parker; to Creation Spirituality; hand drumming (djembe drum); the Jesus Seminar and the Emerging Spirit church movement. His passion in ministry is to encourage people to ask and live the questions of faith and be understanding and accepting of the fact that there are different ways to be a Christian.
