Summerlea United serves western Lachine and the surrounding community as a source of Christian spiritual life and community outreach. Spawned about 1904 as a mission of the Lachine Scotch (later St. Andrew's) Presbyterian Church, Summerlea joined the United Church in 1925. The existing buildings were constructed in 1952 to accommodate a ballooning congregation and Sunday School. We were joined in the 1970's by the congregation of Grace Methodist Church and in 2005 by the congregation of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, as the formerly ballooning anglophone population began to decline. We are now faced with diminishing numbers, but apparently we have not lost the spirit because visitors tell us that they feel very warmly received when they visit us. So we hope that we may have the opportunity to meet you should you ever be in the neighbourhood.

About the Service

Sunday worship, Sunday School and Youth Group at 10:30 AM (10 AM in summer). All welcome.

About the Neighbourhood

Lachine is an inner western borough of Montreal, located just east of the Montreal international airport . We have a population of about 35,000, majority francophone with representation from anglophone and other communities. Founded about 350 years ago as the base for the coureurs de bois of the fur trade, Lachine is becoming a residential community with a large park of light industry. One of our claims to fame is a waterfront open to the public, with bicycle and pedestrian paths, park land, picnic tables and more.

Montreal in 1989, and completed a Master's of

Rev. Patton speaks about a God of love as opposed to a God of
judgment, and about the joy of faith in a world that
cries out for love.  He encourages us to put out the
welcome mat and let people know that we are about
non-judgment.  He is interested in our outreach
projects, and is pleased to be part of an affirming
congregation.  He is interested in pastoral care as well as
preaching.<br>
