Check out the Affirm United website for a new resource called ‘Open Hearts: Resources for Affirming Ministries in the United Church of Canada’ by Alyson Huntly. This excellent, thorough document has information, ideas, and activities for groups exploring, curious about, considering, aligning themselves with, in the process of, and those who have already become an Affirming Ministry.

Here’s the personal plug – the ‘Open Hearts’ document includes the scores of 7 of my songs as hymn suggestions (in addition to listing suggestions from Voices United and More Voices).

What a great resource. Our Task Force for Affirming is in the midst of helping our Presbytery consider becoming an Affirming Presbytery and this will be helpful. The other resources on the web page are also good. Congratulations to all those who worked so hard to make this resource a reality.

Myst,
This comes in handy for me as a resource material. The list of resources pages were alone worth the PDF download. I think I will find "And Tango Makes Three".

Wow - this looks like a fantastic resource! I wish it had come out a year ago when we were just entering into the Affirming Process. We will be voting on Sunday after church and I think I will use one of the ideas for Sunday School - the rainbow made of handprints. I may combine it with a story about a same-sex family or a discussion about families. Since our Sunday School room will likely be the one that is used for the vote, I will put it somewhere visible and have a caption on it that reads something like, "We are all a part of God's family" or "God loves everyone" (I'm open to suggestions).
Myst I really liked the words of the songs you wrote! Are they available on CD anywhere? I tried to sing them to myself but I don't sight read music very well - especially when there is no keyboard around.

Great to see the interest here.
somegalfromcan -- a CD is on my list of things to do. I have a couple of song books, but alas, no CD - yet. Also, I love your rainbow idea. Another line that speaks to me is 'God's Love Includes All'.
SG - 'And Tango Makes Three' is a good read.

Oooo... I like that one Myst!
If you ever do make a CD I bet you'd have a number of customers!
I agree with you about "And Tango Makes Three." We have it in our church library and read it to the kids in Sunday School a few months ago. We followed it up with a conversation and not one of them batted an eye at Tango having two Dads. They were far more concerned with what had happened to Tango's mother - they wanted to know that she was safe and that the egg had not been stolen from her.
Hmmm... we have a youth group sleepover at church this weekend. Maybe I will try and read that to the kids as a bed time story or during another quiet moment.

Maybe I'll be lucky when I get to Vancouver, and you and your partner will sing "Open Hearts" in person?

I've made a note of this. We ( I ) will be able to get round to this next year when I am less stressed by the course I'm taking.
