One of the young people from here is starting school at Memorial in St. John's next month. He will be staying in residence.
This morning his mother asked me if I knew anything about churches in the area of Memorial that he could make contact with. KNowing next to nothing, I thought I would throw it out to this community of wise ones (and wise a$$es). The family is highly musical so a congregation with a strong music ministry may be a good thing. ANd of course a congregation with sopmething of a student connection would be good.
Also, is there a UCCan student group and/or chaplaincy program on the Memorial campus???
Anyone know anything?????????

Ooh, pick me. Pick me. (Surprised?)
Actually my sister-in-law attended Gower Street United for many years. Indeed she was a soloist with the church choir. Gower Street is about 5 minutes away from Memorial, the university my brother graduated from.

Hi GordW,

St. James United Church is right next to the MUNL Campus in St. John's.
The Reverend Guy Matthews is a friend of mine and he is aces.
The Church is walking distance (10 min) from all MUNL dorms.
They have a web-site and it is found at: http://www.stjamesuc.nf.net/
Grace and peace to you.

I was only in St. John's for a few days during my trip to Newfoundland last year but I visited Gower St. United. I was most impressed with the service and the members of the congregation that I met in the pew and during the fellowship time after the service. It is near the univeristy, a beautiful, old historic building, and with an excellent choir. (Thanks Jae for your recommendation as well). If I knew someone going to Mem. I would certainly advise them to try Gower St.
