*grin* For the hour prior to worship this morning, we showed the stream on our digital projector. I let people know when some of the discussions they're interested in are going to be discussed.
Because of the stream, a number of people asked me to email them the links to the GC40 website, so they can follow through the week.
We also ran the Moderator's last video message as our "Minute for Mission" this morning - its started an interesting discussion about what people see to be the "Spirit's priorities for the church".
As someone who is basically clueless when it comes to this level of the UCC, I like having the opportunity to see what it's all about.
On a technological (geek) level, it's really cool that I can see and hear things at the same time that people I know that are there in person are seeing and hearing them.
OK, this is fairly cool. One of my kids got sick, the power went out, so no water and medical appointments means I'm home at the moment and on DSL. I'm watching the feed.
Geek alert. This is what I do at Toronto Conference and as a volunteer producer at Rogers TV.
There are some audio synch issues with the speaker (signal lag?) It's apparent the video feed is coming off the projection splitter. Transitions are good and soft enough to make it look smooth. The audio quality is decent, but it is also apparent that the key feed mike that is picking up the audience is too close to a loud singer and someone who cackles when they laugh. There is no sound of the whole community singing (surely 600 people singing sounds better than one solo). It's also picking up the conversation in a group of four fairly specifically.
OOPS!!!!! The Moderator is telling a confidential story. KILL THE MIKE!!!!!!
Called Mary Frances Denis in Kelowna. You could hear the back channel dialogue between the Moderator, Nora and the Business Committee. Should be fixed.
Hi, DKS - I had sent a email to the feed team, as well. I'm sure there are a number of people zoning in on that one. :D
Good catch!

Thanks. I think it's in the audio mixing board. They just need to ensure the podium mikes are cut and the audience mikes (presuming they are using them) are blended. I wonder who is doing the A/V.
I have been watching the live feed and getting a bit frustrated with not seeing the floor, just the things going up on the screen for long periods of time. I am guessing that the Web feed is just what in on the screen that Commissioners are seeing, but that's not much to look at for those of us viewing. Is there any way of giving us more scenes?
As I am writing they just moved to a floor shot while they talk in table groups but this seems to be rare so I am still hoping for more of this.
Not sure if this is where to post this request, but here goes...

That's what they are feeding us, Judith. I doubt there are broadcast cameras in the court. That would be expensive.
Yes, I believe it's an expense issue. It costs a lot more to stream three commissions. But I hear there's going to be a video of the commission highlights posted tonight. (But don't quote me on that -- opps, perhaps I just quoted myself!)

Bummer. Back on dialup until Friday. No video for me! Let's hope they do some text reports, too.
The band is called rEvolve, and they are freaking amazing. They are a truly United Church band, composed mostly of PKs. They write their own music, with GOOD theology for a change! Great stuff. Looking forward to their concert on Thursday night.

Yup, and I bought the CD and, there is a new music book that I am taking back to our music director.
Folks, truly amazing stuff.
also, there was a piece today, written by David Kae that was regarding the Japanese Canadians from BC and their journey in interment. It was very hard to sing....not due to the notes....or the rhythm...rather, it took us on a journey which touched me deeply.
having just watched the emerging spirit presentation from Kelowna in Elmira, ON, I found myself playing along with "Name that tune", laughing with commissioners and applauding. Gee, interactive comunity across the country using technology. Maybe we're onto something here!!!
Is it the live video stream, or is it the videos one downloads, Eileen?
When the sound stops, does the picture freeze as well?
If so, it's probably that somewhere along the connection is acting as a 'bottleneck', slowing things down. Your computer may be trying to 'buffer' (or save in its memory) some of the information, but things aren't moving fast enough.
