VENGEANCE IS... whose?

 From 'The Scotsman':

THE leader of Scotland's Roman Catholics has hit out at America's "culture of vengeance" and told US Senators they have no right to question the standards of Scotland's justice system over the release of the Lockerbie bomber.

In an extraordinary intervention into the row over Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi, Cardinal Keith O'Brien condemns the American justice system and highlights a "conveyor belt of killing" in its use of the death penalty.

He accuses the American system of being based on "vengeance and retribution" and says he is glad to live in a country where "justice is tempered with mercy". He also likens America's executions to those in China, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Iran and highlights those countries' poor human rights records.

He says the US Senators seeking to question Scottish and British government ministers should instead "direct their gaze inwards".
The outspoken intervention will further fan the row between Britain and the US over the release of Megrahi.

O'Brien's comments, contained in an article in today's Scotland on Sunday, come after US senators revealed plans last month to hold an inquiry into the release of Megrahi, the only man convicted of the Lockerbie atrocity, in which 270 people were killed.

Are Canadians vengeful too?

Naaaa. Not vengful. Canadians

Naaaa. Not vengful. Canadians are not nearly as insane as the Yanks. (Of which I confess to being one. Politically a Pilate-like hand washer.),.)

I dont think Yanks are vengful. Ignorant, easily led, Incredably unaware of anything happening beyond it's borders...excitable but vengence  woulo seem to imply a sense of meaningful purpose.

As a sophomore about a thousand years ago I took a 'fill' course, "The functions of legal philosophy"

The very miniscule bit of that course I remember, was when it comes to different countrys you can't get there from here. Interesting course...I may have learned something...The examination of various legal systems, was like trying to understand Leviticus.

A Scot Bishop wants press. Best to ignore. My off hand take.

(1948) (!) I wouldn't have been able to go if it weren't for free tuition in So. Cal. at the time. But hey, who cares about education these days? (Growl)

Regards...

Well I suppose it's more

Well I suppose it's more convenient to focus on this man and whether he should be released or not, rather than to focus on how the bomb got into the plane in the first place.

Because to me that is the real horror.

And far easier to focus on Scotlands justice system than to focus on the thousands of innocent lives your own soldiers are taking in Iraq, in the unwarranted invasion there.

I think those US Senators mentioned are being rather hypocritical, at best.
