I have a rather plaguing situation. I was on birth control for 12 years. The most recent form was the patch (ortho Evra). I stopped taking chemical birth control because it was giving me really bad migraines and towards the end I started to notice a tiny increase in weight. So now, having been off birth control for going on 4 months now, I have pimples on my jaw line/neck, forehead, back, I've noticed my weight creeping up (I go to the gym 4x a week, run 3x a week, I eat clean and healthy - I'm a celiac which means lots of veggies).
So my question is to anyone who has been in a similar situation (hopefully someone has!), how long did it take for your body to normalize and rebalance it self? Did you go to the doctor for help? Did you take natural supplements?
Thankss in advance for sharing!

Hi, hangnail. Your avatar is adorable!
I have no experience with coming off chemical birth control, I just wanted to give your post a friendly BUMP up for others who may be able to help.
Good luck. (Neutrogena?)

is your weight gain in fat
Posted on: 07/07/2009 02:09
is your weight gain in fat or muscle? Have you changed your fitness regimen lately? I am asking because muscle weighs more than fat yet takes up less room. It is better to go by measurements and how your clothes fit. As for the skin, try taking flax seed oil. My sister in law was plagued by grease in general. Oily hair, acne etc. She started taking flax seed oil capsules and really noticed a difference. You may also need to change your skin care regimen and gear more towards oily skin products. Sucks I know. Hormones can be such a drag.
I was on depo for a year or two and did NOT like how I felt. When I went off it I felt so much better. It can take a few months to be sure. Talk to your doc and someone who knows alot about natural health, for a balanced look. Maybe not the local health food store person as they will try and sell you all kinds of stuff, but someone who is non biased so to speak. Or try the library and look under natural medicine.
Good luck and I am pretty sure that flax seed oil can help the skin.

Flax seed oil! Now that

Flax seed oil! Now that sounds worth investigating. I admit, stopping BC after 12 years felt quite freeing! From what I've researched, it can take awhile before the body rebalances. I'm actually seeing an accupuncturist. She warned me that treating for hormonal imbalances can make me more fertile and to be extra careful.
Has anyone else had accupuncture before?
Thank you for the other suggestions, it's nice and refreshing getting a different angle on things!

I've had accupuncture - loved it - really helpful to me. I went to fantastic woman - Dr. Jenny - who went to med school in China for traditional Chinese medicine & accupuncture. When she came to Canada she went to McGill & did a master's degree & then PhD in human physiology - in particular doing comparison studies of western medicine & traditional Chinese medicine. She was amazing! Sorry - I digress!

BTW hangnail - I have gluten intolerance too (was a 'celiac baby' many long years ago) - have you discovered "The UltraMetabolism Cookbook" by Dr. Mark Hyman yet? I love the recipes in it - and actually lost some weight & got a lot heathier as a result of my reading therein.

hmm! I will have to check out
Posted on: 07/10/2009 00:32
hmm! I will have to check out that book! Will I be able to find it at my local chapters? I have saved the name to my blackberry to check out next time I'm around a book store. I know the girl from The View released a book with gluten-free recipes in it. I'm always looking for new things to try and recently cut out eating rice with most meals and instead, replaced it with spinach salad. You'd figure this would make a large difference in the weight department, but it really didn't. I also heard that if I change my cardio around, for instance, right now I'm doing 30 mins at a 5.1 pace on the treadmill... apparently if I change the intensity so that it's higher and do 10 minutes less, it could make a difference. We'll see though, I'm all for experimenting -- I figure it can't get any worse!
