What vitamins, supplements and OTC medications do you regularly take?

I decided to ask this question after not being able to buy some vitamin D at a major store because it was all sold out in the larger doses.  I'm guessing this is due to the studies suggesting vitamin D might help prevent the flu or lessen its symptoms.

I take vitamin D and vitamin

I take vitamin D and vitamin B12 because even with altering my diet I am deficient in both and am unable to eat many of the foods that are high in either.  I also take claritin every day because my allergies are bad enough that I have a tough time functioning if I miss a dose. Sometimes I have to double up with other types of antihistamines.  I use ibuprofen quite frequently as well.

Wow - Vit D sold out?

Wow - Vit D sold out?  Interesting.  Since you asked - I take Centrum multi vitamins for the over 50 crowd, an extra 1000 units of Vit.D, a thyroid nutritional support product called Thyrosense, and lots of calcium in liquid suspension form.  That seems to do it for me!

Sorry to hear about your allergies ... that's a tough one.

I also take a multivitamin,

I also take a multivitamin, an extra 400mg of D and B12 (cool little minty thingys that dissolve under the tongue), since I have a deficiency.

I need to squirt Nasonex up my snoz every week or so for chronic sinus problems.  That seems to do the trick.  (This is a prescription, though).

I take acetaminophen for aches and pains, since my doc said no nsaids.

I take Vit. D in  fall,

I take Vit. D in  fall, winter and early spring because of the lack of sun and because the sun angle at those times of years in the north doesn't do a great job of producing it.   Don't bother in the summer because I spend so much time outside so get more then enough.  I get monthly B12 shots because it looks like my gut has an absorbtion problem so any oral whether supplement or food doesn't seem to work.  Malabsorbtion of vit. B12 tends to get worse with age as well so I just go for the shots to be safe.

I take folic acid right now as well as a multivitamin if I remember.

I used to take a whole lot more supplements and vitamins but since I've been working on uping the nutrition in my actual diet I've dropped most of them.

I take either acetmetophin or ibruprofen for pain, depending on what it is though I tend not to use them much.

I have an old back injury that occasional twinges. Usually just out of the blue my neck will seize and start to spasm. If I immediately take some robaxocet (the on with those wooden dolls that get pins stuck into them), get some heat on it and sit down then it usually doesn't completely spasm and goes away really quickly. If I don't I can end up out of commision for a few days and unable to move around very well.

Beyond those few I have a bunch of herbs in my medicine chest and tea cabinet, some bought and some grown myself.  I use those for things like the odd tummy upset, relaxation if I'm having a problem sleeping and minor first aid stuff like cuts and burns.

What are OTC

What are OTC medications?

Medications that I take that aren't on prescription are heaps - just ask my granddaughters who love to help me count them!

I take calcium, fish oil, mega B with zinc, magnesium and vitamin C, glucosamine sulfate, calcium plus with vitamin D. The latest gun in my "stay healthy till you drop dead " arsenal is  immunodefence which is supposed to boost immune cell activity.

Apart from the placebo effect, they probably don't do me any good whatsoever. But as I can still charge around the tennis court at 62, who cares?

An antihistamine every day. One does it. Have to periodically alternate between loratidine and the other one.

A B complex vitamin, omega 3-6 fish oil tablets, macca (a Mexican herb). I'll take echinacea and extra C if I feel a cold coming on. Advil for the odd headache.

Our friend runs a health food

Our friend runs a health food store in town and said Vitamin D was sold out recently and it was mainly due to... drum roll please... Dr. Oz. He apparently recently said we are vitamin D deficient and people went and grabbed it.

I take a daily immune support that is a blend of plant sterols and sterolins, not for flus and stuff, but because I have liver disease. I use garlic, oregano and other things because I cannot take so many medications. Those not processed through the liver have to go through the kidneys and I only have one.

Eat food.  Not too much.  Mostly plants.

I'm 37, male, 5'10", 160lbs, used to exercise at gunpoint, but now I cycle a fair bit, and I don't take vitamins or supplements.  I have always eaten a lot of fruits and veggies.  I yet live.

I try to eat well, but I have

I try to eat well, but I have begun taking supplements in the last year or two as I have not been satisfied with how I have been taking care of my nutritional needs and other things. I have a little plastic organizer with 7 compartments, one for each day of the week. It makes it very quick in the morning rather than opening each bottle, and for those days when you might forget, you know for sure by looking at the box for that day.

I am taking:

- peppermint oil complex, to calm the digestive system, for IBS

- multivitamin, for whatever I may have missed

- calium with magnesium, for bone health

- black cohosh to reduce hot flashes - Nature's Path brand seems to help

- ultra fiber, provides soluble fiber for IBS

- D3, 1000 IU - has helped to almost eliminate colds

- am starting to take fish oil - supposed to be good for the brain.

We had a nutritional seminar at church, where I learned that I needed to eat more fruits and vegetables, which fill you up nicely and help with digestion too. I am still working on this, but don't eat fast foods - a huge problem with a huge industry that gets people addicted to things that really hurt them.

 Thanks Carolla, I'm used to

Thanks Carolla, I'm used to the allergies but they do become quite severe sometimes.

PP, OTC = over the counter, basically anything that isn't prescription so you answered the question

Lots of you guys take vitamins regularly!  I know many people who buy them but tend to forget about them until they start feeling sick (or worried about something like H1N1).
