Is this the worst time for an African-American to be president. Can Obama see it through? Expectations are so high especially for the black community. Can he fulfill the dreams of all Americans? If he fails for what ever reason, will it put having other cultures as President of the United States back 100 years.
I hope not. I hope his vision is clear and that the people around him help him achieve his vision.

Considering how Obama won

Considering how Obama won with a landslide in America I believe Americans are not so small minded as to reject a future candiate that was non white if this one fails...

I believe he's getting dissed now because he was a smoker and may or may not still take the occasional puff. Bad "optics" apparently.
Wouldn't it be nice if Americans (us too) were more concerned about how few/many people our leaders feel they need to have killed.

a) Obama did not win in a landslide. He did decently in the electoral college, but that is not the same as total votes. You can even win on total votes and still lose in the electoral college. Ask Al Gore.
b) The key to remaining popular will be to turn the fears and hatreds outwards - to enemies like terra-rists. It's a process Obama has already embraced. Watch for more.

The conspiracist in me says

The conspiracist in me says that the Republicans orchestrated Obama's win because they knew full well that the next four years are going to be hell for any President - kind of like the Kim Campbell era in Canada. Thus when it all goes pear shaped everyone can blame it on Obama's colour, his smoking or some other superficial excuse and ignore the real reasons.
However I acknowledge that conspiracy grows from acts that are so stupid that they defy logic - the choice of Palin in this case - that one searches for meaning that may not be there....

All of these conspiracy theories depend on the perpetrators being endlessly clever. I think you'll find the facts also work if you assume everyone is endlessly stupid. Brian Moore
