I find it very hurtful that people would insinuate that I am making sockpuppets again.
I realize that I have done so in the past. I am not mad at anyone. I am sticking up for Match3Frog (and no I am not Match3frog) because he deserves to be stuck up for.
I cannot say how sorry I am that I made those two sockpuppets in the past. But since Samantha and Singlemom there has only been one sockpuppet and that was Butthead and he was obviously a joke in RevJohn's thread that was deleted.
The problem with these unfounded accusations is that they cannot be taken back. The last time the accusations were made directly Witch stated that I was not She_Devil and Jes. I am not sure WHO the new sockpuppets are suppsoed to to be. I can assure you that I have ONE user account on wondercafe and that is the Serena account.
The two sockpuppets were over two years ago. Again I am sorry for that. It is hurtful when people invent or insinuate sockpuppets and I would respectfully ask you all to stop the false accusations and false insinuations.
It is not fair to ask Witch to check the mac numbers of the new sockpuppets that you all suspect although I have no issues if he does so. It is also not fair that I should give you an itinerary of my day. I believe that I have told you before that I do not have internet access at work anymore since I changed jobs. I was at work today and most of yesterday so although I have not read all the threads (I can't keep up anymore) it is simply not even possible for me to post most of the time.

I'm not good at this game. I generally trust people to be honest. Sometimes I'm surprised when I hear that someone is a sockpuppet - sometimes when I hear it is so obvious that I wonder how I missed it - other times I still question.
I must admit that I'm sometimes tempted to create a sockpuppet. I have some embarassing questions to ask on Health and Aging.

I'm tempted at times too, seeler. I feel like I've made myself too recognizable and I know that people from my church lurk here and read what I write. (Hi, CS!) There are days when I wish that I could reset as a more anonymous personality, but I don't want to end the relationships I already have.
(My embarassing questions are in Relationships.)

Posted on: 02/24/2010 13:37
I'd never heard of the term sockpuppet before coming to the Cafe and although i figured out what it is, the word, of course, makes me think of the children's sock puppets or monkeys which is kind of what like people who need to hide behind the mask of another personality in order to be "real" on these boards - somewhat immature.
I understand the why of why it is done innocently (i.e. to ask the embarrassing questions that we all want to ask) but for the nefarious louts, it is really juvenile.
just my 2 cents.

Hi Serena,
But since Samantha and Singlemom there has only been one sockpuppet and that was Butthead and he was obviously a joke in RevJohn's thread that was deleted.
A point of correction.
I suggested that both Serena and Agnieszka were acting like butt-heads in a post. Not a thread.
That post was deleted after Serena complained to Admin.
If the thread that post belonged to is missing it is most likely because it was one of Agnieszka's threads which she deleted as she left WonderCafe.
I do not have the power to delete threads nor have I ever asked Admin to delete one.
It is also not true that Serena only had sockpuppets named Samantha, Singlemom and Butthead.
Grace and peace to you.

Serena, I can feel your pain as I read your words in this thread. You really believe these people have hurt you and no one likes when something that like that takes place. My concern, however, is for you. I really think that you need to forgive these people for how you feel they've hurt you if you are to continue here. If you don't I think it will really be bad for you. You'll just be bitter here and that might damage you health wise. If you can't get beyond anything that has happened here in the past then maybe you should take a break for awhile. Posted on: 02/26/2010 02:28
I personally don't have any problem with sockpuppets. As alluded to above, they can serve a valuable purpose. These being public boards and all, assuming another identity can allow someone the freedom to discuss issues or ask questions without worrying about the public nature of the board as well as whether or not some of the content would get back to people in their community.
For example, perhaps one or more of our ministers here has a sockpuppet or two. That would be a sensitive way to discuss an issue of concern in general and unrevealing terms. Rather than always putting a good face on things, the honesty in anonymity could be very useful both for the poster (sockpuppet person) and for the rest of us who would be hearing the reality of life in congregations from a different perspective.
This could be true beyond ministers -- maybe someone is a nurse and is dealing with a difficult situation that, in their real identity, would be too revealing...perhaps a question of life and death, with all of the ethical questions that s/he might be wrestling with...
Not only do I not think it's a terrible thing, these other identities serve a valuable purpose, in my opinion, for their creator and for those of us participating and reading.

Hi Pilgrims Progress (never again will you be "PP", after reading one of the other threads),
I understand what you're saying. However, I don't see this as a matter of someone not being their authentic self, but rather, the anonymity can allow for them to be closer to their authentic self, in certain situations. Let's say a minister on this board has a conflicted relationship with a member of their church council and is looking for thoughts on how she could work through it -- it might not be wise to put that issue forward in one's usual identity, especially if one is using one's own name.
Using this as an example, this minister would have some choices here -- to not bring the issue here to seek input (potentially depriving herself of some ideas that could prove useful and depriving us of the knowledge of what a person in this position might be dealing with), to bring the issue here in her regular identity (potentially bringing unwanted attention to the person in question, whether a name is used or not), or using a sock puppet to protect the identities of all parties, while still gathering information to be used in consideration of the problem.
I have worked as a church secretary and am currently a minister's wife. Sometimes I have encountered situations that I would love to discuss, not for the sake of gossip, but to wrestle with what might be a Christian response, what might be ethical in a given situation, etc. However, never in a million years, would I wish to bring bring attention to an issue with which I'm struggling at the expense of someone else's privacy. To be clear, I'm not talking about what I would call confidential situations but rather specific situations that might be well known in our community but that might not be appreciated in black and white on the internet. A sock puppet might be a good way to explore the issue, in my humble opinion.

I see your dilemma. As a minister's wife, there is a certain amount of role-playing that you need to take into account - which, luckily, is not my position.
But, for a lot of folks on wondercafe, this is not their situation. I suppose my remarks are addressed to them.
I've created a thread on being authentic - which if you read it, you'll understand where I'm coming from.
I think that wondercafe could be a vehicle for those that would like to be their authentic self, but perhaps are either shy or lacking in confidence, to try out being their authentic selves. My experience told me that the more you tried, the easier it became.
Having said that, there will always be destructive, negative folks around - but, hey, after the "Love is Love" thread, there is plenty of support around.

ConsumingFire made a sockpuppet once to discuss evolution as a liberal because he did not think that he would be take seriously as a conservative.
MadMonk IS a minister and he made part of the Ace and Gary Sockpuppet and they were just fun. MadMonk for a long time did not let anyone know he was a minister and then he was more fun.
I made a sockpuppet (butthead) because RevJohn called Agnieska and myself a butthead in that thread. That was for fun and I never used butthead again,
I admit that the two sockpuppets I created in the beginning of my time here (Singlemom and Samantha) were not good. They are the dark side of sockpuppetry and I don't do that anymore.

At least two more aliases.
He is mistaken just as he was when he slipped and called She_Devil Serena.
I admitted that I made a mistake in typing your name in response to She-Devil. I made a similar mistake with Agnieszka for which I also apologized.
I could very well be mistaken about the other sockpuppets. If so it is only because you were lying when you confessed to them.

Posted on: 02/26/2010 15:05
I am becoming very concerned about revjohn. He seems to be very judgemental about sockpuppets. It reminds me of Jimmy Bakker who spoke out continually about sexual sin and then he himself was caught with multiple affairs. I believe revjohn has many sockpuppets here based on this behaviour and this fascination or fetish with Serena's sockpuppets is a cover up. He secretly covets the sockpuppets and cannot come clean because he will lose his popularity and respect here.
Maybe this is part of his mid life crisis. A midlife crisis is when a man is in his mid 40's and realizes that his career is not going exactly where he wants it to. His kids are not honour students or athletes and he really has nothing to show for his life and then exhibits strange behaviours.
In that case brother dye your hair green or or go by a topless ferrari that you cannot afford. That is the healthy way to handle a midlife crisis.
