Is The Bible An Onion?

When I read poetry, unless it is very simple, I don't always get the context, the words and the phrases. I get the top layer but I need the help of commentary etc to understand more fully.

Soooooo, after reading the thread about Paul and over the last couple of weeks, the threads on parables and metaphor, I have come to the conclusion that the bible is like an onion.

The skin, the first layer, has the words and the stories and the poetry but to get to the  sweetness , to the fragragrance and the essence of the onion,  one has to peel back other layers - context, history, language, phrases, metaphor, and a thousand other things to get to the centre.

So, of course, I have a question.

Is the bible to some just the outside peel - what you read is what you get - but for others who delve and question and wrestle and disagree , the total essence of the bible is partially revealed. I guess it comes down to the notion that the bible is so much more than words and phrases. How then do we try to get this across or is that not up to us.?

Am I rambling yet?

What a great thought!

An onion! Yes! I peeled  yet another layer about three years ago...It still amazes me...

and my respect, delight, umderstanding have all changed...(you can teach an old dog...)

(And I pompously would include the word 'deeper')

There are many layers in this onion.

Thanks for the start in a great thread!

This is how you started off your thread.--------------When I read poetry, unless it is very simple, I don't always get the context, the words and the phrases. I get the top layer but I need the help of commentary etc to understand more fully. ---I don't think you can understand the Bible with out Gods Help .So we Have the Holy Spirit to help us read and guide us.---airclean33

Onion and Anon, nothing to it

Onion and Anon, nothing to it at either end of the spectrum; pure love (that started it) at one end and pure thinking at the other (Intellect) as the aura ...

When you delve into it as story and poetry it can bring you to tears (tiers of emotion) that depends on where you come from. That is the basis of conflict in the controversial thing that creates an unknown depending on your position ... something to do with Uncertainty Principle and Pauling's Tuff concept abour position and energy. How did this get in an archaic syntax? One must dig into it. If you've got enought literacy under your belt ... one begins to understand more. In a Roman based world of conflict (as choice) it is best to keep the demos in the dark, well dumbed down so we won't know what authority is and has been doing to us. Will it go on? Certainly if a sense of Lite or A' Scie is not impressed on the peoples ... eM in Hebrew terminology ... the paradigm is biggern the specks at the top and bottom of the pyre amidus.

Light aur a' waters ... Is that creative aspect of IEsous, Isis justice , or J'sous I can see in the depths ... takes the Ichthy away ... Pisces fears a monster like man ... until aroused ... read Mobius Stripped (er Dick?). Poetry allows one to express what they don't see in great humours ... the 'Ostile ones are still difficult to teach the unknown but you can speak to the subliminal portion ... that's deep eh! Is there a bottom to the myth of Par's and Oenoen? I bet you didn't know they were paired as parse and nothing to make of it (Anon in different dialect) ... the source of the battle of Th' ESS Alone Ion C ... das leight heh maqon! Like L'uv? If it wearnt there to begin with something would make nothing of it ... that's Love like God, Justice and understanding in this world ... m'n doen't wish anything to do with it ... disturbs the physical state ... raises it a rung or a tier!

Yes, our understanding of the

Yes, our understanding of the Biblical stories deepens with each re-reading and contemplation, but this also applies to contemplating other works of art—divinely inspired art in particular—and especially to contemplating nature and the nature of nature.

No question about it Arm. If

No question about it Arm. If the world of God is all around us (is there something in that) should we knock on it ... see it there's something to it? Sometimes it is worth just stoping the rush ... looking and listening!

Peter Grace once told his thriving business empire that worked on the basis of service ... listen carefully to your clients and read between the lines what they really need ... not what you wish to sell them. His replacement CEO wanted sales and 5 years later business and employees were all gone ... $8B/yr and 8K people! did anyone read Lou Dobbs The Exporting of America? For wealth do you sell the homestead? How about the Hebrews in Egypt .. a dark deeper lesson? I could go on and on ...

To someone outside this body of the western world is this as great a comedy as the kerfluffle on Allah? I imagine Dante would give us all the devil for those crude humours given without good spirit. We should know how to laugh at ourselves but should we know tha nature of the emotional beast first ... what education, wisdom, for the demos ... you can't be serious!
