I have been trying to edit my profile, unsuccessfully.
As I am currently enjoying my eighty-third year, I have wondered about why I consider myself to be the luckiest person I know:
Who else do you know who has taught electronics, washed elephants, talked with Ayn Rand, taught broadcast journalism, had a coast to coast radio talk show, was on the Red Skelton TV Show twice, Sang a solo in an operetta ,dated Amanda Blake ( of Gun smoke (A TV series that ran for years…), was a TV announcer/ director, (Was on the deans list, once), attended eight institutions of higher learning, Played Creon, in Sophocles play Antigone , a combat vet (Korea), has had nine operations - and at 83 believes himself to be the most contented person on the planet?
All true; what a strange journey it's been!
I wish I had more to contribute to this venue the which I enjoy immensly.
I have no idea why I am posting this...a jejune attempt to impress? I expect no response to this other than a 'humph'...
4:30 am.
Warm cheers, from the olde phart....
(To me: Should I hit the 'save' button?...oh, what the hey....

Hi Happy Genius: What a trip!
Good morning, Happy Genius,
Why did you wake so soon?
You've scared away the little stars,
And shined away the moon.
But then I realize that you don't get up that early—you're still awake when we farmers and gardeners get up!
I'm only 71, and lowly educated but highly contented. I don't think contentment depends on one's level of education or any other outer achievements but on one's inner achievements.

Me? Well, I was born about 10,000 years ago. There ain't nothing in this world that I don't know. I saw Peter, Paul and Moses playing ring around the roses, and I'll whup the man who says it isn't so. There, you have my life story.

Posted on: 08/21/2010 11:29
I feel like I'm the luckiest person to ever live. I've been completely deaf for 2 years, I've had 4 major surgeries. I was a Corporal in the Loyal Edmonton Regiment. I had over 121 different occupations from RV Technician, Gravel crusher, Security,Bouncer to pump jockey. I've attended 3 different institutions for higher learning. I'm a veteran in the battle of Tommy's back yard(1976). I've made love to over 300 women(most of them were sober.) I converted one Atheist and well on my way to convert another.
Everything is true except..the 300 women. I haven't slept with anyone famous so I manufactured/jiggled the numbers. Although the women I did sleep with can say they slept with someone famous, as soon as my theatrical agent gets off her butt and gets me on The David Letterman Show.

crazyheart,
Much as I hate to disagree with you, you're wrong on both counts.
1. You are anything but insignificant.
2. It's never a good thing to feel insignificant. (that's reserved for those that choke on humble pie).
Happy Genius,
Jesus came that we may have abundant life - you've done him proud! May your wonderful life continue for many more years.

Lord, its hard to be humble. I meant the only celebrty I can think of is - I married a TV anchor and his partner.and was on the 6pm newscast.
I thought Amanda Blake wore too much make-up.
oh ,yeah Keith Morrison use to come for meals when he was a student minister - many years ago.He probably remembers the meals but not me.United Church didn't pay them much so they scrounged food whenever they could.
The Roofer is better looking than Matt Dillon. I think PP would agree. Probably better looking than Amanda Blake too.

It's 235 a.m --- just begining a nice quiet ...day? Evening.? Whatever.
I have come to believe that nothing really important has ever occured in the history of mankind, before noon.
There may be exceptions, but don't bother me with facts....
I'm only 71, and lowly educated but highly contented. I don't think contentment depends on one's level of education or any other outer achievements but on one's inner achievements.
71? A mere child! And I don't for a second agree with 'lowly educated'.
Inner achievements? You just got sprinkled with a bag of Sufi-dust!
As for me, I just may start taking humility lessons...naaa, maybe next year...

Hi Happy Genius: Don't take

Hi Happy Genius:
Don't take those humility lessons; he world needs braggarts like us!
See, I brag about being somewhat knowledgeable without being formally educated. One learns inside one's head—I keep saying—not inside lecture halls. Although one can learn inside one's head while being inside a lecture hall, one can also leave the lecture all as empty-headed as one entered it, and even get a degree in the end.
When I was young, did eagerly frequent,
Doctor and Saint, and heard great argument,
About it and about, but in the end,
Came out by the same door where in I went.
-Omar Khayyam
Although I am smarter than all of these,
Doictors, writers, magisters, and priests,
I'm not yet wise, and this is why
I sold to magic my immortal I.
-Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Wisdom, of course, is humility: knowing that we don't know.
The only wisdom we can hope to acquire is the wisdom of humility;
Humility is endless.
-T.S. Eliot
I know that I don't know.
-Socrates
I know, but I don't know,
I care, but I don't care...

THis is a lovely thread! Happy Genius' opening post totally reminds me of a beer commercial I just love - featuring the "most interesting man in the world".....he's the life of parties he's never attended.....
I believe that having an amazing life and wonderful experiences is something to celebrate - and we can only celebrate each other by sharing our stories. Whether it's meeting Ayn Rand or a hot roofer, people are a fascinating bunch. If I'm lucky enough to reach 83, I can only hope to share Happy Genius' zest for life and contentedness!!!

And Happy Genius - thanks for sharing your life's work! I hear lots of youth angst today (and parental angst too) about 'careers' and figuring out what one is meant to do in life - it seems where we go and life and what we work at isn't too much different for youth today than it was for you!
Just curious ... have you written any stories about your many life adventures? It would be a wonderful gift ...

Hey Happy, can you tell us a bit more about the radio show that you had?
Can I talk more about myself...Does the Pope tend toward Catholicism?
I had a radio show in
Petersburg, Virginia, Norfolk. Va., Kinston, N.C, Hollywood, Tucson, Phoenix, Montreal, Los Angelus,
Phoenix, (again), Toronto, and Vancoucer. In that order.
My only regret was losing my job at KABC Los Angelus ; Host of Wilson Unlimited, Back up for Joe Pine, and host of ABC Radio Theature. My show was fun, hard work, and -- and not the show they wanted after President Kennedy was shot.
I really enjoyed my last job: at CKO Vancouver; having worked in Montreal and Toronto, it was really nice getting calls from across the country...All 12 CKO stations went belly-up (It seems that nationwide they were going in the red some $500.000.00 a month...) fortunately, that was when I turned 65 and found myself unemployed/retired. (I do THAT well)
Now, it's painting, piano (I do NOT do THAT well) ...re-reading my book collection, enjoying family,
and trying to convince my cat that I am worthy of him.
(It's now 525 am...thanks for letting me talk about me me me me.)
Shamelessly,
The Olde Phart.
