The McCain family (yes, THAT McCain family) have given $1M to the Metropolitan Community Church in Toronto to help retire their mortgage and to build a gay/lesbian refugee network. The pastor, Brent Hawkes, is a long-time friend of the McCains.

I don't know the family dynamics behind this but Cindy McCain (wife) and Megan McCain (daughter) are long time, out spoken supporters of gay rights, often differing from John McCain on d.a.d.t, marriage equality and other issues.

Wrong McCains
.
The McCain family referenced here are a Canadian business family famous for an assortment of frozen foods (fries, pizza, juice, etc.). Not sure if their products are sold in your neck of the woods or not but their products (and the TV commercials for them) are a staple in the Great White North.

It was a great story to read in the paper! Kudos to the McCains ... and all other supporters ... not everyone can or does give a million ... but all gifts are important.
