"Yes, stardust, I'm on a sabbatical from my church. My wife and I burned ourselves out with over-volunteering, and my wife had a mental breakdown and is now in mental hospital. I'm just getting ready to vist her. It breaks my heart to see here there and in that condition. But, under the circumstances, she seems to be better off there.
I talked myself ragged at home, but couldn't help her. Some Messiah, eh?
"
Oh Arminius ......
I feel so badly for you both. I know you were putting over 100% of yourselves into church work. I'm sure it wasn't in vain and it will accomplish a lot although it may not be immediately obvious. Its too bad it had to come at such a high cost to your wife's health.
Prayers for your wife that she will be well enough to come home soon. I'm thinking nature is where she will find healing as in Be Still and Know That I Am God. Just to be in the stillness and let life's commotion pass her by. Its a difficult time for you . I saw my mother-in-law lose her mind for two months in hospital and I had a really hard time dealing with it. She did rally back to sanity. Remember that This Too Shall Pass and all will be well again in time.
God Bless...... and be with you both

A Prayer for strength for you and your wife
O Lord,
In this time of need, strengthen us. You are our strength and our shield; You are our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
We do not fear, for You are with us.
We are not dismayed or overwhelmed, for You are our God. we know You will strengthen us and help us; that You will uphold us with Your righteous hand. Even as the shadows of illness cover my wife, I feel the comfort of Your strength, Or Lord.
Amen.

I think that God works miracles for us when we work the miracle. In other words, when we, in full awareness of the godly power of creativeness in us, create a miracle, then God co-creates the miracle with us. I think that, in co-creation with God and each other, everyone can be a miracle worker.

Posted on: 06/21/2010 08:39
Heh Arm,
I just got back from the ASTE presentations at NS Agricultural College and got this news.
I hope some rest from a hard real world ... and thoughts from all that do truly care will give her a boost. I enjoyed talking to hyour mate at Christmas when I missed you during your evening walk. Even over all this distance, I recognized a warmth in her words.
Mental breakdowns are horrible experiences; been there, done that ... and learned to ask the question "why?" When we search out the solution it comes down to to frailty of our human condition ... we try and do it all ourselves without realizing we are part of a large pool that doesn't wish to know the biggest problem is ourselves in integral sum. We do not teach "our child" well in a world that is flooded with hate, irrationality and sense of entitlement in a realm that was not ours to begin with. This is just the opposite of the thoughts of three old prophets: God's Love, understanding and justice! How many attempt to warp that sort of visible spectrum?
A speaker at psychology forum asked some time ago: "Where do people go when they become catatonic?" I responded that to a place in the garden of the mind that is separate from reality of man. In the old Hebrew sense man is derived from maheinaim ... an isolationist! Is this escape akin to God space in the indeteminate we call mind? Sometimes we have to go somewhere to escape hell, the enigma of being aware of the damage that mankind does to self ... without even considering that self is part of the whole thing. When will we learn? Perhaps it is best put when IEsues (or J'sus) said to go inside the dark closet that is the self ... a form of meditative escpae for those who are very sensitive to the human condition. I trust that a break in the work that you two have taken on will allow your soul mate a proper return to where her efforts are appreciated! Is that just a peculiar state of mind that people that do not believe in God-Love and sole ... deny? One simply has to believe and want to walk the learning pathe' ... it's too painful for some when the load increases. The rich physically don't really care ... it is in the script ... but then who reads that old stuff?
Some authorities are worried about their priveleged states ... as they see the pagans getting more and more illiterate and irrational ... so what's the cause? One has to thoroughly evaluate what our frail creature can carry alone and know that there is a greater power Oz eM in old Hebrew ... the haggadai ... the genre of the story ...
My thoughts/cares are with you,

Hi again Arminius. I'm with you in spirit ....
God, rock Arminius wife gently in the cradle of Your love and give her grace and courage sent on the wings of an eagle. May the doctors and nurses seek Your wisdom treating her with tender compassionate care. God help her to feel Your Presence in the darkness. Help her to understand that darkness and light are alike to You. Whisper to her that the light she carries within her soul is forever . Out of this light we ask and believe that her body, spirit, and heart will be renewed with fresh energy. Sorrow endures but for a moment, joy comes in the morning. God in Jesus you have taught us that the song hasn't died, the music hasn't stopped. It is but buried for a little time and it will break forth and rise again more glorious than before. God in the Name of Jesus and the Holy Spirit breathe gently upon Arminius wife dispelling all thoughts of discouragement and despair. Fill the air in her hospital room with Your Peace, Your Light , Your Love, Your Healing, Hope , and the Knowing that she will be well again soon. In the name of Jesus. Amen. As we have believed so may it be done.
I'm not exactly Rumi but I can do a jingle
.
For your wife:
"I saw the birds at break of day
"Start again" I heard them say!"
And I can do Martin Gray.....
"At each moment the cards are changing in the game of life. Yesterday illness, today health. Today happiness and peace, tomorrow unhappiness and despair. But we are always able to build with what has been given us. As long as a man/ woman is alive she/he can always rebuild, even with ruins. For each man, each woman can find in themselves the strength. There is a powerful spring in us. An energy stronger than a thousand suns. Life begins today and everyday and it is hope."
Brennan Manning too...from the Ragamuffin Gospel:
"In the end everything will be all right, nothing can harm you permanently;
no loss is lasting, no defeat more than transitory, no disappointment is conclusive.
Suffering, failure, loneliness, sorrow, discouragement and death
will be part of your journey, but the kingdom of God will conquer all these horrors.
No evil can resist grace forever."

Hi stardust:
People like Victor Frankl and Martin Gray rose from the deepest depths of despair and triumphed over evil. It was their spiritual consciousness that helped them. They serve as an inspiration to us all.
As I just said in a wondermail message to MO5, prayer links us with the creative power of the universe, and works best when we are thinking and acting creatively. My wife has done a lot of passive praying, and says it hasn't helped, so I am encouraging her to think and act decisively, positively, and creatively, so that the creative power of the universe has a chance to become active in her.
(I just said the above to her on the phone. "Easier said than done," she replied, but added, "I'm off to tell this to the others!")
I also told her about this thread. She's thanking you all!

Well, I'm a little bit like Balaam's ass - sp- meaning I don't know a lot....ahem...but I'm inclined towards thinking your wife may need a sabbatical from pushing the spiritual button on her own behalf. I'm thinking along the lines of letting her "just be and live " enjoying whatever is in the present , something light hearted .....TV comedy, foolishness, nature .....whatever! Praying and not seeing results can be stressful. I suppose in plain English I'm saying God is in the world so enjoy worldliness for a change, and forget about the heavies that can come along with too much holiness. It is after all what has driven her over the brink? Of course I'm saying this from my own past experience because my personality is inclined towards being obsessive. I have to exercise some caution and not go overboard for my own well being. I'm not bad....lol...but neither am I obsessed with being good or holiness if you know what I mean
.
Perhaps she needs some good old fashioned recreation and pleasure away from the church and church life? I believe it may be what psychiatry will recommend . I mean Arminius if one's life is out of control and out of balance a change may be what is needed at least temporarily. God is everywhere and in all things we may say so she won't be losing God. She can bow out of church gracefully if need be and life goes on. I don't know but I predict her troubles arose in part from people problems within the church. I don't mean to assign blame but her depression ( if that's her condition) has been caused by or is the result of some circumstances somewhere or somehow that didn't agree with her.
My 7 cents worth...right or wrong....

Arminius.....hey.....I found Rumi! I haven't gotten around to the cosmos or New Age prayers yet! I can go there too. They are actually more along your line of thinking re our own creativity coming into play rather than placing our reliance elsewhere. Still, we have to roll everything into One. See....I do know you...... the Messiah!
Each moment
contains a hundred messages from God:
To every cry of “Oh God”
He answers a hundred times, “I am here.”
~ Mevlana Rumi
“Sometimes, in order to help, He makes us miserable; but heartache for His sake brings happiness. Laughter will come after tears. Whoever foresees this is a servant blessed by God. Wherever water flows, life flourishes: wherever tears fall, Divine mercy is shown.”
“He has afflicted you from every direction in order to pull you back to the Directionless.”

Coming from nothing
Going to nothing
It’s called circumstance
Because it circles.
Everything that appears
By necessity disappears.
Look at the shadow as you stand
To what end does it come?
No matter how long it is,
It inevitably grows less and less
As I said, whatever circumstance you find yourself in, whether you enjoy it or despise it, will without a doubt pass away.” ~ Excerpt from The Book of Illumination by Ibn Ata’Allah al-Iskandari
Dr Iqbal’s Poem:
The heart is like a mirror. Do not prevent it from being broken. It’s breakage is more dearer in the sight of its maker (i.e Allah), than its safety. Almighty Allah being indeed the Maker.
Dr Abdul Hayi Sahab used to say, when Allah breaks the heart of any of His servants, He desires to lift them to greater heights. These shocks, anxieties and sorrows which come to men are forced exertions in deen (faith) by which the servants progress in leaps and bounds to higher degrees and this is not possible in normal circumstances. He used to recite a couplet:
“The potter threw down the pot to break it, saying that after breaking it, he would reshape it (in a better form).”
-Brennan Manning (The Ragamuffin Gospel)
Our world is saturated with grace, and the lurking presence of God is revealed not only in spirit but in matter-in a deer leaping across a meadow, in the flight of an eagle, in fire and water, in a rainbow after a summer storm, in a gentle doe streaking through a forest, in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, in a child licking a chocolate ice cream cone, in a woman with windblown hair. God intended for us to discover His loving presence in the world around us.

I was thinking maybe she needs a man who isn't married to God ...lol..but I didn't want to say it . I had thought you two must be "two peas in a pod" in order for her to tolerate you.....lol...no offence intended! Possibly you were the leader and she was following you aiming to please? I shouldn't be sitting here attempting to counsel you since I know nothing personally about your situation with your wife. My husband was an atheist so we had no problems along the lines of religion. We never discussed it, accepting each other "as is". Do friends of your wife visit her in hospital? Do you think its possible you may need to go your separate ways for awhile ?

Feeling small
When tears are in your eyes
I will dry them all
I'm on your side
When times get rough
And friends just can't be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you
I'll take your part
When darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Sail on Silver Girl,
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
If you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
In the name of the holy one at the heart of all hope

I'm bumping this up before it goes flying in the wind so while I'm here I'll add some more inspiration for you and your wife. These are still other directed except the last chant which is more your style I think. Please keep us posted about how she's doing.
A night prayer
With the darkness comes Your light. Earth and sky blend into one, the heavens seem closer now, the day’s burdens farther somehow. Your presence is almost palpable.
Watch over me, God, body and soul. Stay beside me through the night. Protect me from harm. Banish my fears. Send me dreams that are sweet, fill my heart with Your peace, set my mind at ease. And, at first light, please, restore me to new life. Amen.
Blessing for healing
May God heal your body and soul.
May your pain cease,
May your strength increase,
May your fears be released,
May blessings, love, and joy surround you.
Amen.
A prayer of thanks for healing
I thought you had forgotten me, I felt abandoned and alone. I prayed to You, but You never answered. I searched, but I couldn’t find You. And then, without warning, You spread Your love over me and taught me not to fear. You quieted me, You healed me, You blessed me, You stretch Your comfort over all living things.
Thank You, God, for giving me life and for saving my life. Amen.
