On my way to the office this morning, Bob Marley's granddaughter was speaking because of the movie opening she was a part of at the Royal Ontario Museum :
here
http://www.rastaonline.ca/rom/
She was speaking about what it means to be a Rasta as she explored her heritage. Growing up in Toronto and having allot of friends for over 35 yrs who are Rasta's , not to mention that I also love Bob Marley's music, I was listening intently, and what she said was surprising to me , as she spoke about the Rastafarian movement in the ghettos of Jamaica, she proceeded to say that Ra sta meant a trinity which symbolizes the God head and the reincarnation of Christ and her grandfathers song " Lets Get together and feel aright " is about loving one another just like Christ loved us.
She stated further that Rasta's smoke the ganga (marijuana ) to open up there spirit and connect with the divine :) & that is why the governments don't want them smoking it , if you don't connect you can be controlled. also she claimed that the Rastafarian movement is not a religion and thus find it offensive when it is referred to as Rastafarianism because followers reject all Isims .
I confess in my younger yrs growing up with Jamaicans , I connected in this mode many a times ;) , is this a sin Biblically ?
so Looking up Rastafarian this morning , the clam was not of Christ but of Haile Selassie I, Emperor of Ethiopia (ruled 1930–1974) who the people of the movement worshiped as God Incarnate , you can read it here :

I wonder who is correct Bob Marley's Granddaughter or Wikipedia , either or here is to you Bob Marley " Lets feel Alright "

Hi Blackelt...I love

Hi Blackelt...I love Redemption Songs, one of my favourite Bob Marley songs. I must must have nearly every song he ever made on my ipod thanks to my brother who gave it to me a couple of Christmases ago, but I know mostly the classics. Whatever one's take is on the Rastafarian movment, Bob Marley seemd like someone God inspired imo...and I am not saying that because of the green stuff, but because of his musical and lyrical gifts. His songs are uplifting anyway, without any need to smoke up.He sang alot about emancipation from oppression, and the music raises awareness, helps remind us of human struggle and oppression in the world today, and helps people feel hopeful....and it's the best and easiest music to dance to imo! I like to play it while cleaning the house!
As far as the 'ganga' being a sin, the Bible doesn't say anything about it...but I am certainly not convinced it is an "innocent" drug and healthy for everyone, I know for some health conditions people get can get legal prescriptions and it helps them with chrnic pain...but for people prone to mental health conditons it can be dangerous and make them worse...I am no expert, but it's not helpful for everyone...plus it can lead to other drug use in some people. I have seen that happen to kids I went to high school with....but don't beat yourself up over your youth...we've all had a youth.
In terms of them worshipping an emperor in place of Christ ( oops I fiixed the typo--I obviously meant to type Christ, not Chris), I don't know anything about the "movement" really...but rulers appropriating religion is not a new story. The bible has been changed or used as a means of control by several emperors and rulers....and the teachings and traditions then became common to whole cultures...even today.

I wonder if they would still worship Halle Selasse if they knew what he did or was going to do ahead of time? (Live in luxury while the people of Ethiopia suffered extreme hardship.) yeah, nice guy to follow.
This makes for a rather entertaining and informative read, as the accent is clearly shown in the grammar.

Speaking of accents trishcuit

Speaking of accents trishcuit I had a house mate from Trinidad for a couple of months in my early 20's. I don't know if he was Rhasta, he was a musician who played at weddings though...and he had dreds, and I am not sure if the accents are exactly the same, but sound very similar to my untrained ear.
My other housemate had a very chatty cat who liked to greet people at the door and would follow at their heels "mroow, mroowing"...cute but could get on one's nerves sometimes. still remebember his deep voice and accent every time he came home: "Heey, how ya doin' to-day kaht? WhAtcha want kaht? Shutcha mowt kaht!" lol

No, my son, you sinned not by smoking pot. The Bible is very clear on this question:
"Once I got stoned (2 Corinthians 11:25--NIV translarion)."
"There is no harm in [the] pot (2 KIngs 4:41--King James Version)."
