The only thing I've had is Saskatoon pie. It was pretty good, but not as good as wildberry (when it's made with fresh raspberries, strawberries, and wild blueberries from my uncle's farm)

I have never had Saskatoon berries.  I'll have to try them when I get a chance.  I don't see them here in Ontario.  Do they really just grow in Saskatchewan?

Saskatoon Berry Great yields

Saskatoon Berry

Great yields of juicy, blueberry-like fruits produced on very hardy trees. Saskatoons, also known as Serviceberries, will survive and prosper in areas where high bush blueberries won't. The berries, which are darker and larger than blueberries, are easy to pick and make great pies and jam. Produces berries in 2-4 years. We ship 12 to 15 inch plants.

We just got an ice cream

We just got an ice cream bucket full.  I have been wondering what to make with them.  Probably stick to pie and jam, but interested to try something else.  Do they make a good crumble or anything?

We can tell that the saskatoons are ready for picking when the seagull poop is purple.  Really.  We love the pie...mom loves the syrup, but they are very best straight off the bush with the sun in your face!

Ha, I say 'yes please' to the retes as well. We have family reunions in Sask every few years and a few of the aunts still make it. I don't get it nearly enough.

I'm still chuckling over the seagull poop abpenny.

This thread is making me wistful and hungry.

Made Saskatoon pie and

Made Saskatoon pie and mini-tarts last night - they are all gone now.  The mini-tarts were by far the better of the two.  The pie was too much filling, should have done two pies with it.  Mixed it with a little apple, raspberry, cinnamon, wine, and pistachio extract, and a few other things.

I make saskatoon-rhubarb jam

I make saskatoon-rhubarb jam from my great-grandmother's recipe.  Even better than plain saskatoon jam.

My favourite, though, is fresh berries on cereal or ice cream.
