what is you'r favourite animal, if you have one

I was watching animal planet and started what my favourite animal was (something i hadn't thought about since i was like ten). I like all animals but like other people some have more of an aesthetic appeal to me more than others. My dads favourite animal was the wolf (he had a wolf painting on the wall and quite a few tatoos). So let's all post our favourite animal and why (is it looks? feel? sound? etc.)

I'll go first.

My favourite animal is the snake (all of'em, not just a single family)

They are my fave because of the way they feel and look, I've loved the feel of a snake slithering around my arms/neck/legs since my first pet snake (corn snake, i had 2 many years ago) and as much as i love the feel of corn snakes, the feeling of a younge boy resting on your shoulders is just amasing. Aside from that, they are amazing genetically and aestheticaly.

so, who's next?

I love all animals -- that's why I make it a point to visit zoos whenever I travel.

While it may not be my absolute favourite, I am a huge fan of lemurs, especially the ring tailed lemur.

I was probably the only teenager that watched Zoboomafoo -- and I did so partly because Zoboo was a ring tailed lemur (and the Kratt brothers generally rock on all their wildlife shows).

I loved Zoboomafoo, too!  I watched it under the guise of appeasing my little sister.

My favourites are giraffes (for looks and the hilarious gangly-ness of the babies) and penguins (for looks and playfulness).  Anyone seen that old animated movie The Pebble and the Penguin?  It's so funny!

And I've just now realised that I didn't include penguins on the Favourite Birds thread.  I guess I don't usually think of them as birds.

Sorry: must'a hit 'quote',

Sorry: must'a hit 'quote', not 'edit.  Might as well do more, then...

Love watching predators hunt - lions rock in an en masse hunt lead by the Chief Lioness when the young'uns are in learn-mode; Cheetah are amazing just lying there; Love grizz; Love all ungulates from the tiny dik-dik to the mighty moose;  giraffe cruisin' like ghosts; baboons; warthog with tails up high like flags; dogs; dolphins and many more.

Oh, and to see elephant on the same day as it's closest evolutionary cousin - the tiny (rock, in my case) hyrax - was a real treat in itself.

My earliest memory is seeing one sitting on the branch of a tree. After travelling overseas, I always knew I was home when I heard the kookaburra's raucous laugh.

Oh!  Me, too and I just forgot 'em in my reply!  I recall tenting ~25' away from a small, muddy river and there were about 20 of them there all the time.  Their tuba-like noises were just wonderful, especially lying on a cot going to sleep.  Individuals would sometimes cruise between the (concrete-slabbed) tents and there was a warning to take extreme caution, especially going to the bathroom in the dark (more people are killed by hippos than any other critter there, as I recall).

I was also surprised at the proximity of crocs - maybe a 250-400 metres downstream.  Healthy hippos can easily handle even large crocs, though confrontation is rare, I think.  (Thanks for the reminder, Namaste!)  ...  [Plus, my new avatar is also a fav stripey critter.]

Cats. Absolutely no question there. =^..^=

After that, I would say cows.

Out in the wild, that's a hard one to choose because I like basically all animals.  Except rats and bats.  They are very gross.  But I think I would say my favorite would be the giant tortoise from the Galapagos Islands.  They are tres cool.

It has to be cats.  If I do not say that then I will have hell to pay when L and B return to me ( I am certainn that they sneak online at cjms' house(

MY first serious wildlife sketch was of tww otters, and without trying to be boastfl, it di wim a city-wide competitionn and it was framed and hung in a Judge's  chamber for a year.

And I really loved my labgreyhound X, Buddy...

Hi Punkins, how is the Triumverate?

Buffycat will be ticked, Namaste= :)

CF, how goes it with the wholee vegetarian thang ? ;)

cjms, have you responded, saying your favourite is cats, as you are thegodmother of L and B?

I think that polar bears are quite playful and interesting, until I recall thjat they eat seals, who I also adore... so that always gets tricky ... :)

Ummmm....yeah....not so well. I do eat some vegetarian stuff, but there is nothing like a nice chicken breast smothered with Jack Daniels BBQ sauce grilled on the Q. When I am at school in Amherst, I usually stop at Tops (the friendly market) to pick my wife up vegetarian stuff we can't get in Ontario. I pick up some maple flavored veggie sausage patties that are really tasty. Even our daughter likes them.

Think about it: the modern

Think about it: the modern dream... a nice homeostatic environment... no need for undue exertion... no worries, no challenging needs to think or work... everything you could possibly need brought to you in a gently flowing stream, bathed in succulent nutriments... warm, and safe from almost every physical threat...a pain-free existence...

like a blissed-out life in a luxury unit in a gated community... as close as you could be to your cat or dog...

and so symbolic of urban, middle class aspirations...a tape-worm should top this list.

Actually Jae, a snake will cost over 100$. In fact, the one I was looking at a few weeks ago (a Hog Island Boa, wich unfortunately extinct in the wild (because of humans building where the snakes live and there for causing them to have no home or food) and sadly only exists in captivity making captive breeding essential to their survival) was about 300$.
