Wondergathering in Vancouver in April anyone?

I will be in Vancouver in April, and wonder if anyone wants to connect. We will be downtown this time, near the convention centre somewhere. I might be available on Thursday or Friday (19th and 20th), and both hubby and I would likely be free on Saturday the 21st.

We had such a nice visit last time, it would be neat to re-connect. It would also be neat to be able to meet those who couldn't come last time.

Oh darn Northwind -- I'll be away then. Sorry it won't work this time to meet up with you. I will look forward to reading about people meeting up!

Myst! Where will you be? I hope it is somewhere good. Pilgrim, I did get to meet Myst last year, so I know what you mean. Do you have any return trips to Canada planned? smiley

I'm not far away, but the ferry is a pain and I can't get time off work. Enjoy your visit!

No, Northwind.

My own health hasn't been so good this year - but just maybe I might get the chance to experience a North American Fall..........

(Our seasons don't vary as much as yours - so I'm keen to see a part of the USA I missed out on when I was there in the 1970's - Boston and New England etc.)

I can't tell you the number of novels I've read that mention "Kennedy country" names like Cape Cod, Martha's Vinyard, etc,etc......

I'm thinking that's not too far from Toronto?........

As my Dad used to say - "we shall see, what we see".

Northwind's picture

Cape Cod, and that part of the US are probably a day's drive away from Toronto.

I hope you get your health back in gear and are feeling better soon.

Northwind -- yes, it is 'somewhere good'. My partner and I will be in San Diego for 5 days. She has a conference to attend (part of the time). My parents are coming for a visit and will be staying with our son while we are away.

Pilgrims Progress -- I do hope you are able to travel 'this way' again and I am sure you would enjoy New England.

I would love to meet up with you Northwind, but would likely only be able to do it if it's on the Saturday.

We'll be in Vancouver next weekend. I was thinking of suggesting a Saturday brunch, or dinner. Anyone interested?

Hi Northwind - I'm interested! Something around lunch time would work best for me, as I will be catching a ferry back to Victoria after we are done. If possible, I'd prefer to go to somewhere on a decent bus route, as I am hoping to leave the car at home.

We will be near the Pan Pacific, so I imagine that is reachable by bus. There are some excellent dining choices in that area. There is a place we were going to take my sister and her husband who will be with us too. In fact, they will be going back on the ferry on Saturday, so you might be able to hitch a ride back to the ferry with them.

Well, I'll be in London and Cambridge just after that. I won't be getting to Toronto.

Wasn't there a Wonderpicnic that happened in that area?

I've been to a few wondergatherings now, and I've always enjoyed myself! Why not organize one? You could pick a restaurant, a date and time - and see who wants to join you!

Hi Somegal,

There have been two or three wonderpicnics, I believe, in Southern Ontario.  Nothing right in Toronto, as far as I know.

On second thought, there may have been a gathering when Pilgrims Progress visited from Australia.

Maybe it's time for someone to organize one!

Well, somegal joined our motley crew for brunch, then a walk around Vancouver. We started at Scoozies on Howe, and had a great meal. we walked over to the torch and the new convention centre. We got to see all kinds of gamer characters hanging around the centre. We ended up walking over to Granville Island and checked out all the sights there. It was a wonderful visit. Sadly, Kimmio coukdn't catch up with us, so we didn't get to see her.

Granville Island - that brings back memories!

Myst (she of the hand sani) brought me there to pick up bagels for the 2011 Wondercafe reunion........

She asked me did I have a particular favourite, and I had to confess that the eating of said bagels isn't that common in Oz.?

By the time I left Canada I could be seen in Tim Horton's buying a plain toasted bagel "to go" for my breakfast.

True to my Gloria Seretich I had my trusty vegemite with me - a spread that compliments a bagel nicely!

....and they were really movin' too...I got updates ;)  I hope to catch up to you next time! It sounds like you had fun. Granville Island is a great place!

Pilgrim, I sure hope you did not get a Tim's bagel on Granville.......(is that even possible?)

We did talk of going to the Art Gallery but being outside won out. Today will be an inside day at the trade show.

Kimmio, it is too bad you weren't able to catch us. Next time.

No indeed -myst is a class act - no chainstore bagels for her!

She went to a specialty store that she seemed to know well at Granville Island..........

Afterwards, I (not being a class act) bought them at Tim's..........

Kimmio - we missed ya! It was really fun meeting you Northwind. You were very much the way I had imagined you to be: friendly, energetic and fun! The crew of us traipsed all over downtown Vancouver - from the convention centre, where we encountered all kinds of people in interesting costumes, to the olympic flame to Granville Island where we enjoyed the sights, sounds and tastes of that wonderful place.

Pilgrims - I have been known to purchase many a bagel from Tims. They have a jalapeno one there now that I just love!
