What is aid?

As I was walking home from Occupy Moncton, I passed a building surrounded by a very medieval looking iron fence - and I wondered...

If this were the home of a cruel baron who tied women to the fence, and whipped one every day, leaving her overnight tied to the iron railing, would sneaking up at night and applying some appointment be considered an adequate Christian response?

we live in a world very much like that "baron's" railing, only worse with mass murder, plundering, greed, imposed starvation...

I know we send aid.

Do you believe in Satan?

What's the purpose of this guy? More than 5 years ago, I have begun to reject the concepts behind hell, Satan, demons, fallen angels and whatnot. While I'm Christian, I just don't see why he has to exist.

In fact, I think it's scape-goating that brought him into Christianity. People didn't understand concepts like the unconscious, dreaming, psychology in general and blamed the devil and demons for their thoughts and the "voices" they heard.

Well, that's my opinion. Do you believe in Satan?

Was Jesus even a Christian?

RE Christianity really should be called Paulinity! Did Jesus of Nazareth really want to start a new religion? Not sure. Or, as one little old Irish lady used to say in our Bible study group, ... "Jesus was a good Jewish boy gone bad!"  Was Jesus even a Christian???? This the way I see it, so far! All religions are a construct by some one. There seemed to have been many "Christianities" after the Teacher/Preacher/Prophet (Son of God? God? Logos?) Jesus of Nazareth lived on earth.

Worship without God? Unio Mystica or Unio Homo?

In the most recent issue of the United Church Observer (February 2011) we have a feature article about the so-called “Post-Theistic” churches that have begun to spring up from within the greater United Church polity. These congregations are taking down their crosses, closing their Bibles, and trying to re-imagine themselves as spiritual beings in their own right.

True Christians? Free Church? Bible Church? What do these terms really mean?

I've always found these sloguns funny.  It's as if the ones using them aren't so must as saying we are true, free and biblical but you're not.

Dilemma in Regards to church

Just out of curiousity, what should a person do if they go to a specific denomination (such as the United Church) and then realize that they no longer fit in, in the church? As a Christian, I have tried my best to listen to and heed the call of God in my life... for a number of years, it has felt like God is calling me to a different denomination altogether, as I don't feel I belong at the United Church. My theological and spiritual views are likely too "right-wing" for the people in my congregation, and I no longer find the worship to be spiritually enriching for me.

Russell Williams

This evening, on TV, I watched Russell Williams in the interrogation room as he talked about what he had done. I felt sickness and hopelessness and something much more terrible than disgust; and I felt an indescribable sadness.

How does a Christian react to this?

Is being reasonable the same as being Christian?

i found an interesting article in the Observer.

Decoding the Bible

What makes Christians distinct?

What interested me the most was a quote from 2nd century Christian thinker Justin.

a dear friend with mental illness...

Hi all-I'm new here and looking to connect with united church or like-minded people in discussions about lots of stuff.

but right now I'm going to make it all about me!

my dear two roomates, God bless them, are hard-nosed, ultra-conservative, fire and brimstone christians who belong to the (I AM NOT EXAGGERATING: slightly fascist) organization known as my university's chapter of Campus for Christ.

they both think the UCC is a tiny, crazy, liberal organization that practically does not qualify as Christian.
